The Journey to D.C.

You would think when you win a lottery you would receive something for free. However, that is not the case when you are lucky enough to enter and win a lottery spot to a large marathon.

I won a spot in the 2018 Marine Corp Marathon. The race will be held in Washington D.C. area in late October.

Winning a spot doesn’t mean that it is free, I still had to pay the registration fee, secure a place to stay and schedule transportation.  None of that is free.

And…winning a spot means I have made a commitment to log at least 500 training miles. Again, not exactly what you think of when you think you’ve won something.
