Worship Confession: starting a service

I struggle with how to begin service each week. I know what I want to accomplish…getting the people connected to God in a conversation.

I wish there was more intent on the people coming into the room to start the conversation with God on their own.

It is my job as a worship leader to encourage everyone to converse with the Object of worship.

So… …I will continue to encourage people to come prepared and expecting …I will continue to come up with ways to begin a service that encourages the conversation of worship. …some days it might be loud, fast and bright …other days, slow dark and contemplative

God help me to lead the people of my church into Your very presence.

Here is our Sunday Setlist for last week, including how we started service:

A Five Minute Countdown

Songs and Scripture

Open the Eyes of My Heart

-used only the first section of this song…slowly…and the worship leader encouraged the people to use the words as their personal prayer to begin the service.

Psalm 145:1-13

Indescribable -a statement of who God is

Amazing Grace (My Chains Are Gone) -a reminder us of what God has done

Sing to the King -states who God is, what Christ has done and the promise of a coming, eternal fellowship and worship in heaven

Songs and Scripture

*this was a big weekend for our students, high school and middle school, it was DNOW. As part of their prep for the weekend many of them memorized scripture. During this section we incorporated some of these scriptures including corresponding songs

Scripture: John 14:6 (read by a student) Song: John 14:6

Scripture: 2 Corinthians 5: 17, 21 (read by worship leader as transition to next song) Song: All Because of Jesus
