Easter Celebration More Than One Day

Just three more weeks until the biggest attended Sunday of the year…Easter. For many of us in the ‘free church’ tradition we put a lot of extra energy into that one Sunday and rightly so, because it is the biggest attended day of the year. It is our one chance to tell the ‘gospel’ to many people until next year on Easter. This year we are breaking the patter and have decided to focus on Easter for four weeks, all the Sundays in April. I should say our pastor felt strongly that we should focus on the “72 hours that changed everything.” So for the weeks of April we are taking a close look at the: death, burial, resurrection and appearing to men after the resurrection. Today we started with a look at Christ’s death and the necessity of a ‘blood sacrifice.’  The whole sermon series will be focused on the scripture 1 Corinthians 15:3-8.

Some of you are thinking: ‘you are going to celebrate the resurrection on Palm Sunday.’ Yes you are right; in fact we are going to celebrate the resurrected life of Christ every week. Don’t we do that anyway? Shouldn’t we do that anyway?

For the series we had produced a video intro for each week’s sermon. You can get a look at a sample of this work here. The video was produced by John Magyar at SilverLeaf Entertainment. John is a member of our church.

Next week we move on to an examination of the burial…but we will still celebrate the life of the risen Christ, because that is the only way we can have a conversation of worship with Almighty God.
