Sunday_setlist_2-290x86 This post is a participation in the blog carnival “Sunday Setlists,” a place where worship leaders around the country share what took place in their places of worship.  This post is also a resource for the people of ClearView, a place where they can find links to songs and other items that were used in worship. Worship, A Definition

Recently while doing some research on ‘worship’ I came across this definition:

Worship is our response

to God’s revelation

of who He is

and what He has done.

Do you think this definition is complete? What is your definition of worship?

Sunday Setlists, January 10, 2010

This blog is posted as a part of the blog carnival Sunday Setlists.

For those from my church family; you can use this blog to access information about songs used in worship and where to get access to recordings of the sermon.

_______________________

The worship choir has been absent from the stage in our main worship room since before Christmas. Today they are back and I am glad because they are great examples to our people on how to be involved in worship.

Opening Song
Happy Day (key of Bb) (vcvcbcc) (over the intro of this song the worship leader quoted these two scriptures)

Welcome

Songs
Hosanna (key of F) (vcvcbc ending)
(our transition to the next song was and extended ending while slowing down on the last word “Hosanna.” Then with one measure drum fill we jumped into the chorus of the next song.)
Your Name (Bb) (cvcc)
I Give You My Heart (key of G) (vcc)
-segue was made to baptism or prayer as keyboard continued playing this song

Baptism (early service) (great to experience a grandfather baptizing two of his grandchildren)

Prayer (late service) (the time was spent focusing on a New Year’s resolution…the words of the song we were singing)

-we continued in the worship set by moving right back into the previous song
Songs
I Give You My Heart  (vc)
My Jesus I Love Thee (key of D) (v) once the song gets started no vocals sang on mics, leaving the congregation to hear each other sing

Sermon Into

Sermon
We value spending time in God’s Word and taking our time to get through a group of scriptures. This week we end the series, Origins, that has taken us on a journey through the first eleven chapters of Genesis. It is in these chapters that we find the foundation for everything that comes in the rest of the Bible.  The complete series, from our pastor, can be found here.

The series finished with these four questions:

1.    What area(s) in my life give me a sense of pride?  Wherever those are, they are breaking the heart of God because He hates pride
2.    Are there any places in my life that I am aware of where I am blatantly being disobedient to God’s instructions?
3.    What project or plan, am I working on that God has nothing to do with?
4.    Am I more concerned about God’s reputation or mine?

Invitation

Offering

Ministry Spotlight
We place our announcement time at the end of the service. We all know there is a need to make mention of important events, the question is how to fit this information in the outline of a service where it will not interrupt the flow.

Sunday_setlist_2-290x86
This post is my participation in "Sunday Setlists" a blog carnival hosted at TheWorshipCommunity.com. This week is the 76th edition of this blog carnival.

A new year is a great time to add a new worship song to our list…at least we thought so. This Sunday we introduced the song “Glory To God Forever,” by Steve Fee and Vicky Beeching. I had heard a lot of comments about people using this song over the last few months; however I was not sold on how well our congregation would sing this.  I changed my mind after attending Catalyst 09 and seeing 13,000 people lifting their voices using the words of this song. Here is how we introduced the song and used it in the song set.

Opening Song
Glory to God Forever Key of A
Two minutes before the start of service the worship leader takes a few moments to teach the chorus and bridge to the congregation. Then we jumped into a full arrangement of the song, worship team member singing the verses, this introduction week, and then inviting the congregation to stand and sing the last chorus and bridge repeats.

Baptism

Welcome

Song Set
Glory to God Forever (reprise: chorus-bridge-chorus) Key of A
How Great is Our God (starts on hold of last not of previous song) Key of A

Scripture

Worship leader used a quick overview of the book of Galatians and closed with Galatians 6:14 as introduction to next song.

Song Set
The Wonderful Cross
Prayer
From the Inside Out

Sermon Introduction (video)

Sermon
A continuation of the series “Origins” based on the first eleven chapters of Genesis. This week Genesis 9:18-29. There were some really good points in this sermon, so I thought I would post a few of them. You can find the audio version of the sermon here.

  • Even the most Godly are prone to sin
    • Past Godliness does not guarantee future Godliness.
  • We easily become calloused toward sin
  • Sin casts a long shadow
    • Be conscious your spiritual weakness can be magnified in your children and grandchildren.

Response time
Opportunity is given in service for response and also there is explanation given that there is a prayer room in close proximity for further prayer staffed by trained counselors.

Sunday Setlists: Genesis and Christmas

Why participate in Sunday Setlists? This is a way for me to connect with other worship pastors and gather ideas that may work in my local congregation. Another reason to participate is to provide to the people at ClearView some links to songs and other resources that may help them continue in the conversation of worship everyday of the week.

We, ClearView, are pushing through the last few weeks in our Genesis series titled “Origins.” The thought behind this series is: if you do not believe the God of Genesis and the facts presented how can you believe the rest of the bible. The sermon this week was from Genesis chapter 9 and all of the music centered on the story of Christmas.

Songs:
Joy to the World (based on Casting Crowns arrangement) This was easy to sing and gave energy to service.

O Come All Ye Faithful. Here we continued the same feel as Joy To The World. The transition was a ‘vamp’ on a D chord, which was the last chord of previous song.  The opening note D became pick-up to the new key of G.

Welcome:

Baptism: (okay I thought the baptism was suppose to happen in the 9:30 service…it wasn't. Due to me not reading the tech sheet I authored my pastor went to the baptistery area looking while I did the big stretch…waiting for the baptism to happen. After seeing him return to the worship center with a puzzled look on his face I continued with the rest of the service.)

Songs: (this set featured our worship choir and it is a longer feature than most Sunday’s.)
Behold Emmanuel (From the book Once Upon A Holy Night, 2008 LifeWay Worship.)
Once Upon A Holy Night (From the book Once Upon A Holy Night, 2008 LifeWay Worship.)
Offering (We will use this worship song three weeks of December and also at our Christmas Eve services.
