Surround them in prayer

Sunday is a few hours away.

I often stop at this time of the week and ask “am I really prepared to meet God in worship?” As a worship leader that question can go in many directions: “is all the music in place?” “do we have gaps we need to cover in the technology teams?” “am I ready to lead?”

We…okay I take that back because I can only speak for myself…I often only think about my role, what I am going to do or have to do in worship.

And, I am wrong for that. Continue Reading…

Riches I Heed Not?

Really…can I really say ‘riches I heed not?’

It seems I am always looking for resources to do “this or that” around my house. Or, “I wish I had more money to get a new set of golf clubs.” Or, I really would like some “new clothes.” Yes ladies guys make that last statement also.

So…can I really say ‘riches I heed not?’

That line comes one of my favorite hymns Be Thou My Vision (I have posted the words and video below). I like it for a number of reasons: it has a great melody, it is singable and the text is great poetry. Most of the stanzas are encouraging and refreshing. It is easy to sing for those reasons.

I don’t like it because the words on the next to the last stanza are so convicting…riches I heed not…REALLY? Continue Reading…

A ‘man’ list

2012 brings with it my 30th wedding anniversary. I was and am blessed with a Godly wife who is a dedicated Christ-follower. God and His Spirit have been with us and protected us, allowing us to journey through life. I am so thankful for His protection and guidance.

My children are now in their late teens and middle twenties, and if it is in God’s plan, the day until their journey into marriage is close.

I keep wondering have I been a good a dad? Have I been and am I a good role model to my children? Do I show proper love and honor to my wife?

I am right in the middle of reading the new book from Mark Driscoll, Real Marriage: The Truth About Sex, Friendship, and Life Together. In the book Mark and his wife explore the God authored principles for a healthy marriage. In a chapter just for men, Mark lays out a list of eleven things that every man should be implementing in their home. Continue Reading…

What Questions?

They could be who, how, when or what?

________

This week at the church where I serve our pastor is beginning a new Wednesday night study, just for men, called FORGED. The majority of the material is based on Men’s Fraternity.

Also this week my accountability partner and I are forming the list of questions we want the other to ask each week.

If you have or would like to have an accountability partner, what questions would you want them to ask you each week?

I would love to see your responses. Please post them below in the comment section.

The Great Commission In Worship and Is Worship

How often should a church emphasize Christ’s command to go into the whole world and make disciples?

Obviously it is an important theme of any Christ-centered church, but do those churches make it a part of public worship?

Our team has become very intentional about outlining the elements of our worship services so that there is a re-presentation of the gospel. But until recently we have not been good at including one part of the gospel, Christ’s last command to his followers. Continue Reading…
