Preparing For Worship: Communion

Communion: intimate fellowship. That is one of the definitions listed when searching the dictionary. Although in Christian worship the word symbolizes much more but 'intimate fellowship' is the core.

'Intimate Fellowship' is an appropriate term to describe the invitation to man from God, it is what He desires with us and has gone to great lengths to make a way for that to be a reality. The ultimate action was the sacrifice of His Son, Jesus, the Christ. By that action we have the means to begin 'communion' or fellowship with the Father.

When planning worship services the worship staff at ClearView have at the forefront of their planning 'fellowship' with the Father. We desire that everything we plan encourages communication with Him, and therefore 'fellowship.' This Sunday at ClearView we take the meaning of communion to another level, the sharing of the elements of the Lord's Supper. There is nothing more intimate in Christian worship than remembering and celebrating the whole story of God, including the surrender and total sacrifice of His Son.

The Sundays we take the time to include "Communion: the Lord's Supper" in our services are very special to me. As one who has been forgiven because of the sacrifice we are remembering, there is nothing greater to celebrate. Even as I write these words I become somewhat emotional remembering all that God has provided for me and forgiving me of because there was a "once and for all" sacrifice. (Hebrews 9:24-28)

This post is part of the series "preparing for worship" written so that the people of ClearView would have a chance to be prepared for what will take place in worship this Sunday. Below are some items that will be included in the service. I encourage you to read the scriptures and listen to the songs:
